Walter Payton, who is also known as "Sweetness" for his bouyant personality, reached the 10,000-yard plateau faster than legendary runners such as Jim Brown, O.J. Simpson, and Franco Harris. On October 7, 1984, at Soldier Field, he ran past Brown's 12, 312-yard NFL-record. In 1987, Payton finished his 13-year career with 3,838 carries and 16,726 yards, both all-time records at that time.
